About Personal Growth and Recovery

Recovering is Always Growing

Hi, I’m John!

I’m a recovering alcoholic and have been sober for over six years. During that time, I’ve watched many people try to recover. Some succeed. Many struggle. And I’ve also noticed something interesting , a lot of people who aren’t addicts still wrestle with many of the same internal challenges. Fear. Control. Resentment. Validation. Self-doubt. Expectations. These things show up in everyone’s life in one way or another.

During my own recovery, I spent time in rehab, attended AA meetings, and worked with therapists. Each of those environments introduced different tools and ways of thinking. Over time, I started to notice something important: many of these ideas overlapped. They weren’t separate solutions, they were connected pieces of a larger picture about how people understand themselves and grow.

As I continued my recovery, I began having deeper conversations with friends, family, and others about the struggles they were facing, trauma, personal setbacks, mental blocks, relationship issues, and questions about purpose or fulfillment.

What I realized is that many people are introduced to helpful concepts, but they often struggle with how to actually apply them in everyday life. Terms like “process it,” “accept it,” or “work on yourself” get thrown around a lot, but they aren’t always explained in a way that feels practical or clear.

Over time, I started explaining the tools and lessons that helped me in simpler terms. I tried to break them down into ideas people could think through and apply in their own way.

I’ve seen those conversations help people rethink certain habits, beliefs, and patterns in their lives. Not because I had all the answers, but because sometimes a different perspective helps someone ask better questions about themselves.

Today, I no longer actively participate in a specific recovery program like AA. Instead, I rely on a combination of the tools and principles I’ve learned over the years. They’ve become part of how I think and live. In many ways, they’ve helped me reach a point where sobriety isn’t something I constantly think about, it’s just part of who I am now. More importantly, those same tools have helped me live a happier, more productive, and more balanced life.

That’s what led me to create this website.

RecoverGrowAccept.com is simply an attempt to organize the ideas and lessons that helped me. My hope is that by sharing them in a structured way, others might find something here that resonates with them.

This isn’t therapy. It isn’t a formal recovery program. And I’m not claiming it will work for everyone. But if something on this site helps you think about your life differently, or helps you move through a challenge you’re facing, then it’s served its purpose.

And if you’re here reading this, it likely means you’re trying to understand something about yourself or your life. That alone is a good place to start. Because growth almost always begins with one simple step: Trying.

Thanks for being here and joining me on this journey.
